Director of Government Affairs

Brian Bergsma is the Director of Government Affairs for Indiana Michigan Power (I&M). In his role, Bergsma leads the government affairs efforts in Indiana and Michigan and monitors and provides input to local, state and federal policymakers on policy developments that can affect the company and its customers. He provides I&M's perspective to elected officials, staff and administrative officials on important issues, and directs public policy advocacy.

Bergsma was the recipient of the 2013-2014 AEP Key Contributor Award for contributions made to the company that saved I&M over one billion dollars. In 2004, he received the Sagamore of the Wabash award from the Governor of the State of Indiana - the highest honor given by the Governor.

Prior to his current role, Bergsma also served as the Director of I&M's Corporate Communications team and the Director of Small Business and Economic Development Policy for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce where he served as the main spokesperson on issues affecting economic development and small business growth across the state. He also worked for the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce as Vice President of Government Affairs, and worked both on a state legislative caucus staff and a congressional staff.

Brian is a registered lobbyist in the State of Indiana and also manages the Indiana employee Political Action Committee.

He graduated from Blackburn College with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and also completed the AEP Strategic Leadership Program at The Ohio State University.
