APPALACHIAN POWER ANNOUNCES EXTERNAL AFFAIRS CHANGES IN VIRGINIA

ROANOKE, Va., July 14, 2008 – Appalachian Power, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), has announced two changes in its external affairs staffing for Virginia operations.
 
Ron Jefferson, former external affairs manager from the Lynchburg area, has been transferred to the company’s Richmond office where he will have statewide management responsibilities for the company’s governmental affairs. Larry Jackson, former business improvement manager in Lynchburg, has been named to replace Jefferson in the eastern part of the company’s Virginia service area.       
  
The announcement was made by Dan Carson, Appalachian’s vice president of external affairs for Virginia and Tennessee. “With these two changes we expect to be able to represent the company more effectively in governmental matters at the Capitol, throughout the Commonwealth and with leaders at the local level representing our service area,” Carson said.
 
Jefferson has been an employee of Appalachian Power for 28 years. He began as a line mechanic in Fieldale and served in a number of other positions in the company’s distribution organization including Area Superintendent at Rocky Mount. He was named Community Services Manager at Lynchburg in 2000 and External Affairs Manager in 2006. He is a graduate of Averett University and Fieldale-Collinsville High School.
 
Jackson has also been with the company 28 years in a number of positions and is a registered professional engineer. He received his engineering degree from West Virginia University and an MBA from Averett.
 
As external affairs manager, Jackson will be responsible for a broad range of community and governmental activities in Lynchburg and the surrounding county areas (Bedford, Amherst, Campbell, Appomattox, Nelson and Albemarle) as well as the Fieldale/Martinsville area including Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania counties.
