AEP OHIO ANNOUNCES VILLAGE OF RIO GRANDE EXCEEDS ITS PARTICIPATION GOAL IN COMMUNITY ENERGY SAVERS PROGRAM

December 1, 2014

GAHANNA. Ohio, Dec.  1, 2014 – AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), and the Village of Rio Grande partnered to help residents and businesses reduce energy use and costs through Community Energy Savers, a pilot program offered by the company.

Rio Grande Energy Savers Program ran from August through October 2014 with a goal of 10 participations in seven residential and business AEP Ohio energy efficiency programs.  While final participation counts are expected to be concluded by Dec. 31, Rio Grande has already exceeded its goal and is eligible for two significant awards.

AEP Ohio is awarding Rio Grande with assistance in developing a Sustainability Roadmap that will help advance additional sustainability initiatives in the community, and $800 in financial incentives to use toward energy efficient lighting projects at the local baseball park. To achieve this goal, village representatives made an extraordinary effort educating community members and local businesses on the benefits of energy efficiency and sustainability, and AEP Ohio’s programs and incentives.

“I would like to thank the people of Rio Grande for supporting this initiative through their participation in the Community Energy Savers program. As we launched this pilot program in our community, we knew it was going to be a win-win situation and we are confident that this is just the beginning of a more sustainable Rio Grande,” said Mayor Matt Easter.

“We applaud the village of Rio Grande’s commitment to sustainable practices and its success,” said Jon Williams, manager of energy efficiency and demand response for AEP Ohio.  “By participating in Community Energy Savers, residents and businesses in Rio Grande were able to learn about and take advantage of energy efficiency programs and incentives available through the company. We invite other communities to join us in what we believe is a win/win for communities, residents, businesses as well as AEP Ohio.”
