Indiana Michigan Power to Raise Reservoir Level at the Elkhart Hydroelectric Plant

March 10, 2020

March 10, 2020

ELKHART, Ind. – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) will start its annual raising of the water level upstream of the Elkhart Hydroelectric Plant on Monday, March 16.

The Elkhart Hydroelectric Plant reservoir will be raised slowly, about 6 inches per day over a four-day period, to its normal spring and summer operating level. The reservoir was lowered last December to help reduce ice buildup.

Those living along the St. Joseph River within eight miles upstream of the Elkhart Hydroelectric Generating Station may wish to take note of this in case there is any work they would like to finish along the riverbank before the level rises.

I&M owns and operates six run-of-river hydroelectric plants on the St. Joseph River. I&M operates the Elkhart Hydroelectric Generating Station in accordance with its license issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
