COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 6, 2007 – American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) operating subsidiaries Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) and Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) have issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the purchase of short-term capacity that will allow SWEPCO and PSO to satisfy planning reserve requirements of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) for the 2009-2012 summer peaking periods.

The RFP seeks proposals for capacity and associated energy in amounts from 100 to 600 megawatts (MW) for annual terms beginning in calendar year 2009. Smaller quantities in 40 MW blocks will also be considered and are encouraged.

American Electric Power Service Corp. (AEPSC), a unit of AEP, will administer this short-term RFP for SWEPCO and PSO. Neither SWEPCO nor PSO will submit proposals in response to this RFP. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 10, 2007.
