Go Green at Work Indiana

I&M offers customers two simple ways to purchase RECs from solar, wind, and hydro generation across various power markets—through the Local Renewable Program and the National Renewable Program.

The Local Renewable Program includes RECs from I&M's solar and hydro generation assets and wind procurement. This option costs a bit more but provides a unique opportunity to support renewable energy generated locally.

The National Renewable Program includes RECs from renewable energy generation across the U.S. This provides a lower cost option when location of the renewable energy resource is not as important of a factor.

You can choose your participation level and receive a certificate each year to show how much your carbon footprint was lowered.

GoGreen is a simple and easy way to connect with your friends and neighbors on your commitment to sustainability and renewable energy.

Net proceeds from your GoGreen participation helps I&M reduce costs for all customers under our Fuel Cost Adjustment Rider.

Indiana GoGreen at Work FAQs

In 2023, we generated more than 87% of our energy from emission-free sources, including solar, wind, hydro and the Cook Nuclear Plant, and our energy efficiency programs help reduce customers’ energy use, which also lowers demand for generation of electricity. I&M and our parent company, American Electric Power, aim to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2045.

The GoGreen program in Indiana offers two simple on-bill tariff options for commercial & industrial customers in Indiana to support renewable energy. These options allow you to subscribe to renewable energy certificates (RECs) from solar, wind, hydro and biomass generation across various power markets.

We offer a Local Renewable Program option and a National Renewable Program option, and RECs from both options represent the renewable energy attributes of the power provided to local power grids to directly lower your organization's carbon footprint.

GoGreen is a simple, easy and cost-effective way to connect with your employees, customers and other stakeholders on your commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, especially for customers where installing solar panels or wind turbines on your own property may not be feasible or cost-effective.

Based on I&M's current state-approved tariff, the RECs you support under the Local Renewable Option in Indiana currently cost $0.03584/kWh.

The table below shows costs for GoGreen Local Renewable Options based on a commercial facility's energy use of 10,000 kWh per month across a range of participation options.

Percentage of Your Organization's Energy Use Monthly Local Option Cost (Based on 10,000 kWh Monthly Energy Use)
10% $33.01
20% $66.02
30% $99.03
40% $132.04
50% $165.05
60% $198.06
70% $231.07
80% $264.08
90% $297.09
100% $330.10

Based on I&M's current state-approved tariff, the RECs you support under the National Renewable Option in Indiana currently cost $0.00248/kWh.

The table below shows costs for GoGreen National Renewable Options based on a commercial facility's energy use of 10,000 kWh per month across a range of participation options.

Percentage of Your Organization's Energy Use Monthly National Option Cost (Based on 10,000 kWh Monthly Energy Use)
10% $2.65
20% $5.30
30% $7.95
40% $10.60
50% $13.25
60% $15.90
70% $18.55
80% $21.20
90% $23.85
100% $26.50

The GoGreen Local Renewable Program option includes RECs from renewable energy generation at I&M's company owned-and-operated solar and hydro generation plants in Indiana, and Michigan, respectively, and from wind power we purchase from four Indiana wind generation plants.

The GoGreen Local Renewable Option provides a unique opportunity for your organization to connect with and support renewable energy generated locally where your employees and customers live and work.

The GoGreen National Renewable Program option includes RECs from nationally-available renewable resources across various power markets.

GoGreen is a voluntary program, and if you choose to participate, the option you select and level of participation is your choice. Participation in either option can be from 10 percent to 100 percent of your monthly kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy use, in increments of 10 percent, for a minimum 12-month commitment.

Your support for renewable energy is based on the option you select and your level of participation will be billed monthly on a per kWh basis as an additional line item on your bill. I&M then manages the administrative REC chain-of-custody activities annually on your behalf to lower your carbon footprint.

The GoGreen Local Renewable Option provides a unique opportunity for your organization to connect with and support renewable energy generated locally where your employees and customers live and work at a slight cost premium. The GoGreen National Renewable Program option provides a lower cost option for organizations where the location of the renewable energy resource may not be as important a factor.

Beyond demonstrating your organization's commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, the net proceeds from your REC support helps I&M reduce costs for all customers under our Fuel Cost Adjustment Rider criteria. Also, your organization's support for RECs under either program option directly lowers the carbon footprint of your electricity use.

No. Due to the nature of power grids, even under the Local Renewable Option it is impossible to track which electrons used at your facility were generated by any one particular renewable energy generation plant. This is why RECs were created. RECs from your support legally represent the environmental and renewable energy attributes of each kWh of renewable power provided to local power grids.
