Wind power is sustainable and renewable energy and leaves a smaller impact on the environment than burning fossil fuels. I&M has purchase agreements from four Indiana wind farms. This provides enough energy to power more than 100,000 homes.

How We Turn Wind into Energy

Wind turbines use blades to collect wind’s kinetic energy. The wind flows over the blades creating lift, causing them to turn a drive shaft that turns a generator to produce electricity.

An inverter converts the electricity into alternating current electricity, which can then be used in your home and passed directly to the electric grid. A second meter is installed to measure how much energy your equipment generates, which helps us determine if you made more energy than you used and to apply a credit to your bill as appropriate.
