Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is monitoring the weather and preparing for freezing rain expected in our area Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Light ice accumulations of up to 0.2” are expected across our service area. Ice accumulations over a quarter inch can weigh down trees, power lines and cause power outages.
WEATHER PREPARATION EFFORTS:
- I&M’s Storm Response Team monitors forecasts and potential impacts to our electrical equipment and customers. The team adapts and forms a plan to respond quickly to outages.
- I&M has employees and business partners in Indiana and Michigan ready to respond promptly and safely should customers lose service.
- Crews have the necessary cold weather gear to safely work in winter conditions.

SAFETY MESSAGES:
Please pay attention to several safety precautions:
- Make an Emergency Kit: Have a bag with emergency items including non-perishable food, water, a flashlight, fresh batteries, a battery-powered radio or television, a portable cell phone charging bank, a blanket or sleeping bag, a first-aid kit, and any necessary medications.
- Downed power lines. Stay away from any downed wires and report them to I&M. You can contact I&M by calling 1-800-311-4634, report on our app or website, or call 911.
- Vehicle accidents are often a cause of power outages, especially with ice covered roads. Avoid driving until road conditions are favorable.
- When using a generator, connect all appliances directly to the generator. Don’t connect the generator's electrical output to any home or building electrical circuits. Don’t use gas-powered generators in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces, like inside a garage or a home.
