The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation was a proud sponsor of Meridian Health Services’ Fam Fest this month, which helped those in the Muncie community with a back-to-school theme. The event was focused on promoting health, wellness, family fun, safety and community resources.
The AEP Foundation has sponsored the event for several years upon the recommendation of Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), helping not only the event, but in promoting safety through the “Safety Town” demonstration for kids.
Safety Town is a miniature simulation, focusing on teaching children how to be safe citizens. Children can cruise through Safety Town on tricycles while learning more about community, traffic and internet safety, as well as abstaining from drugs. These topics help introduce kids to some of the biggest safety concerns that they may face. Safety remains one of the most important parts of our company.
“This remains an important event for the Muncie community, and we are happy to help support the event with Safety Town,” Rob Keisling, external affairs manager with I&M said. “Helping kids learn how to be safe in their community is a natural extension of I&M’s Zero Harm focus, which means everyone goes home in the same or better condition.”
The event also helped get health screenings, school physicals and vaccinations for those in need. The sponsorship with Meridian is one way the AEP Foundation and I&M help the Muncie community.
