August Community Spotlight: YWCA Northeast Indiana

August 8, 2024

We are committed to supporting organizations throughout our communities, like the YWCA Northeast Indiana. Read what they have to say about how this partnership has helped their organization serve and empower our community:

“The team at Indiana Michigan Power is kind, thoughtful, passionate, and dedicated to walking alongside nonprofits in and around Fort Wayne and, here at YWCA, we are so grateful for them!” – YWCA Northeast Indiana

How would you best describe the work your organization does?

YWCA Northeast Indiana is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Our organization works towards this mission by addressing norms and barriers that could cause anyone to find themselves in situations of violence, trauma, or addiction. We actively work to transform lives by creating positive change, stability, and new opportunities for our clients, their families, and the community.

What audience does your organization commonly serve?

Our organization has served the community for 130 years. We currently serve six Northeast Indiana counties: Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Wells and Whitley. Our crisis shelter is open to anyone experiencing violence, regardless of identity. While our addiction recovery program is only available to women, we do have community connections to help anyone who reaches out to receive the care they desire and deserve.

How would you describe your organization’s partnership with I&M?

Indiana Michigan Power recognizes the important work of nonprofits in the community and has been a huge supporter of the mission at YWCA Northeast Indiana for several years.

In what ways have you worked with I&M during this partnership?

I&M has helped to sponsored YWCA coordinated events, which includes serving as this year’s featured sponsor for our upcoming Circle event. They have also helped the organization by participating in volunteer work on site and within their various locations. This was demonstrated recently before we moved into our new building. Staff at I&M put together welcome bags for our clients with snacks they collected through a month-long donation drive. They later brought the welcome bags and a group of volunteers to our new location to help our team make countless beds before the clients arrived at our new space!
