Often, what leads a person to volunteering is a specific passion they hold for an organization or cause. For I&M’s Tyna Reiter, her passion for helping animals fueled a continued love for helping her community.
A simple smile or warm meal can be a small but impactful way of showing compassion. For I&M’s Deb Wilkerson, it was a light inside of her, and a calling to serve others, that has sparked a love for volunteering.
Volunteers can have a significant impact on a local organization, but often overlooked is how that act of service can impact a volunteer. From developing connections to cultivating a passion for community, volunteers hold their own unique reason why they dedicate their time to serving others. And for some, that drive to serve his community is personal.
I&M volunteers paired with the Greater Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity to help install siding at a build site on the southeast side of the city.
For 31 years, volunteers from around Fort Wayne have participated in the United Way of Allen County's Day of Caring. Despite the heat and humidity, I&M volunteers powered through projects benefiting Headwaters Park and Fort Wayne's VA Hospital.
For some, removing fallen leaves can be daunting and expensive. Volunteers from our Michigan service centers and Cook Nuclear Plant helped qualifying neighbors in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties clear leaves at no cost.
Volunteers put in the hard work to set up the "Holidays at Gresham" light display in Muncie. This included hanging garland and stringing lights - with help from the 150' transmission bucket truck. With our team of 40-plus, what would commonly be a week's worth of work was accomplished in just one day."
