A blanket of light ice accumulated across the Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) service area late Wednesday into Thursday morning. Although our crews were prepared and ready to safely to respond, there were almost no power outages directly caused by the ice accumulation. I&M crews did respond to incidents in which icy road conditions resulted in vehicles hitting poles.
SAFETY MESSAGES:
- As the ice melts today, I&M cautions the public to use caution if they need to drive. The frequency of vehicles sliding off the road into power poles, causing a power outage, increases during winter weather events. If possible, please wait to drive until road conditions are favorable.
- Please keep an eye out for I&M crews working alongside roadways and in alleys.

WEATHER PREPARATION EFFORTS:
- There is a chance for additional winter precipitation this weekend in I&M’s service area.
- I&M’s Storm Response Team is monitoring forecasts and potential impacts to our electrical equipment and customers.
- I&M has employees and business partners ready to respond promptly and safely should customers lose service.
