Cook Nuclear Plant
The Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant, located on the Lake Michigan shoreline, generates more than 2,000 megawatts of electricity to serve the needs of Indiana Michigan Power customers. The plant was named for the late Donald C. Cook, a Michigan native, and former chairman of the board of American Electric Power.
AEP's nuclear generation group is headquartered in Buchanan, Michigan, approximately twenty miles from the plant.
Statement of Cook Excellence
Cook Nuclear Plant will always meet all criteria established in the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission reactor oversight process (ROP). However, the station will always drive to improve performance beyond ROP requirements and achieve excellence in the U.S. and international nuclear industries. Excellence is defined by high levels of plant reliability, fuel reliability, safety system performance, and long term asset protection. It also includes maintaining worker radiation dose levels as low as reasonably achievable, and strong industrial safety for company and contract workers.
