‘Goddess’ Supports Habitat

February 12, 2020

I&M’s Human Resources Region Manager may be a “Goddess,” but her recent fund-raising project went straight to the dogs.

Kathy Wozniak, Human Resources Region Manager, volunteered as one of 11 “Goddess Contractors” to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne, specifically its Women Build program. Each woman was challenged to select an item from Restore – Habitat’s non-profit home improvement store on Lima Road in Fort Wayne – and re-purpose it “into something fabulous.”

Kathy and her completed project

athy selected an old dresser, turning it into a three-piece matching furniture set including a dining station, a bed and a toy box – all for loved ones of the four-legged variety.

The doggie dining station included a chandelier light fixture, storage drawer, removable food and water bowls, and top shelf that can transition into a grooming station. The dog bed came complete with headboard, mattress and pillow. Kathy also included toys for the toy box, treat jars, a leash and a rug.

Kathy’s canine bedroom set “fetched” a winning bid of $725 at the annual ReStore Your Passion fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity.

The creativity of her project earned Kathy’s team – which included her husband, Brian, and father, Daniel Stajkowski – the “Most Repurposed” award. The canine set also placed second in “People’s Choice” voting.

Toby Thomas, I&M President and Chief Operating Officer, also participated in the event last week, placing second in the “He Nailed It” nail-pounding competition.

I&M has been a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, with a number of employees volunteering to help build homes for people who would otherwise not be able to purchase a home. In 2020, I&M will have two teams of five women each who will participate in two projects as part of Women Build.
