Kentucky Power to hand out free CFL bulbs to residential customers

March 24, 2015

FRANKFORT, Ky. – As  part of its Demand Side Management Program, Kentucky Power plans to distribute high-quality compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) to its residential customers on Friday March 27, at the Greenup County Kentucky Cooperative Extension Office, located at 35 Wurtland Ave., Wurtland, Ky. Each customer who brings a copy of his/her Kentucky Power power bill or valid Kentucky Power account number, along with a valid phone number to the extension office is eligible to receive four bulbs. Only Kentucky Power residential customers are eligible to participate. The bulbs will be distributed between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on a  first come, first served basis, while supplies last.

Kentucky Power reserves the right to limit the amount/number of CFLs given to any one customer. Customers cannot reserve CFLs in advance nor pick them up  earlier or later than the times indicated. The most convenient parking and entry area for the event is in the rear parking and entrance area of the building.

CFLs can last up to 10 times longer than traditional, incandescent bulbs and typically use 75 percent less energy. They also produce 75 percent less heat, yet provide more light. All of this means customers can save money when they upgrade their lightbulbs.

Kentucky Power, with headquarters in Frankfort, Ky., provides service to approximately 171,000 customers in all or part of 20 eastern Kentucky counties. It is a unit of the AEP system, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, with more than 5 million customers in 11 states. AEP ranks among the nation’s largest generators of electricity, owning nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the U.S. AEP also owns the nation’s largest electricity transmission system, a nearly 39,000-mile network that includes more 765 kilovolt extra-high voltage transmission lines than all other U.S. transmission systems combined.
