I&M TO CONDUCT COMPREHENSIVE INSPECTIONS ON TRANSMISSION LINES IN INDIANA, SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN AND NORTHWEST OHIO

SOUTH BEND, Ind., July 25, 2011 – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), and its parent company American Electric Power (AEP), will conduct comprehensive inspections of transmission lines starting this week in Indiana, southwest Michigan and northwest Ohio.

     The inspections differ from the aerial line patrols conducted each spring in that the helicopter will land at transmission towers to take photographs. The helicopter will fly the path of transmission lines in the following areas:

     Indiana/Michigan area
     • Lakeville, Ind. to Cook Nuclear Plant, Bridgman, Mich.
     • New Carlisle, Ind. to the Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Mich.
     • Near Kalamazoo, Mich. through Cass and St. Joseph Counties in Mich. to Twin Branch Station in Mishawaka, Ind.

     Fort Wayne/northwest Ohio
    
• Huntington County, Ind. through Fort Wayne to Lima, Ohio.
     • Lima, Ohio to Van Wert, Ohio

     Northwest Indiana/central Indiana/southwest Indiana
     • Huntington County, Ind. through parts of Wells, Blackford, Delaware, Randolph, Wayne, Union, Franklin and Dearborn Counties to Tanners Creek Plant in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

     The comprehensive inspections will begin on Tuesday, July 26 and conclude in two weeks, weather permitting.

     On August 8, 2011 aerial maintenance work will begin on transmission lines running from the Cook Nuclear Plant in Bridgman, Mich. to the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Covert, Mich. Shield wire hardware will be replaced on about 50 transmission towers.
