AEP Texas Storm Restoration Update

May 24, 2015

Severe thunderstorms rolled through AEP Texas early Sunday causing about 15,600 outages — mainly in the Corpus Christi, Laredo and Rio Grande Valley districts. A tornado reportedly hit the midtown area early today in Corpus Christi, which was most impacted from the storm. Currently, there are 4,100 electric consumers without power in the AEP Texas service area.

At 10 a.m., the Corpus Christi district had 3,386 electric consumers without power, which was down from 9,600 earlier in the day. It is anticipated that all areas in the Corpus Christi District will have power restored throughout the day and this evening, except for the midtown area. Currently, it is estimated that midtown restoration will be completed sometime tomorrow night.  The other districts also will be completing restoration in their areas throughout the day and evening.

AEP Texas already has some contract crews helping local crews in the midtown areas. About 38 personnel comprised of company employees, other utilities and contractors are heading to Corpus Christi to assist the midtown restoration effort.
