August 8, 2024

Our employees will join First Energy’s restoration efforts in Northern Ohio after destructive storms, including a tornado, has thousands of customers without service.

Approximately fifty I&M employees, including lineworkers, fleet technicians and safety personnel, will work alongside First Energy to restore power. Crews from across Fort Wayne, Muncie, Marion, South Bend and Elkhart, Ind. and Buchanan, Benton Harbor and Three Rivers, Mich. will work 16-hour days to help restore not only power, but a sense of normalcy to First Energy customers.

I&M and our parent company, AEP, are part of a nationwide group of power companies that help each other when significant power outages occur. I&M crews were recently in Texas for Hurricane Beryl restoration efforts and crews from Kentucky, Ohio and other states helped I&M restore service after last month’s damaging storms.

Though there is no timetable for our crews’ return, I&M assures customers we are ready to respond if outages occur here at home in Indiana and Michigan. You can follow our crews' role in the restoration efforts on our social media pages.
